During a stopover in Amsterdam, I'm visiting Emmerich which is one the border between Germany and the Netherlands
As the main freight railway in the Netherlands "Betuweroute" does not have any stations and is challenging to photograph, I'm heading to the German part of this important railway
VIAS service between Arnhem and Dusseldorf is stopping here in Emmerich
Not many trains are using the main two tracks
The line between Emmerich and Arnhem is electrified with 25kV and is using ERTMS 2 signaling, so the older German and Dutch locomotives can't be used here. But there are diesel locomotives...
New ICE trains are now deployed on the route Amsterdam-Frankfurt
Germany has implemented border controls with all neighboring countries, including the Netherlands. The police are waiting for the ICE train from Amsterdam. Usually, it does not stop here, but they make an exception for the police.
