Rueda de Jalon-Lumpiaque, Salillas de Jalon, Calatorao, Ateca, Medinaceli, Guadalajara

New days starts also in Casetas
Today, I will be going to Guadalajara, which is a suburb of Madrid (not to confuse with a city in Mexico)
Cercanias station in Casetas

Here is the view of the two railways connected in Casetas
Ole! Renfe Class 319 manufactured by Macosa and General Motors in the 80's and the 90's
319 318
Today, this type of locomotive can also be found in Argentina and Saudi Arabia

I'm now going to Madrid, following the classic Madrid-Barcelona line. The high-speed line with the same destinations is nearby, and it has much more frequent traffic.
The line was opened in 1859, and it is called Line 200. Here I am at Rueda de Jalon-Lumpiaque, and there is a train approaching
I mentioned that there are 100 units of Class 253, all belonging to Renfe. However, Renfe is leasing some of these units to other operations; here is 253 102 from Comsa Rail (today Captrain).

Time for refreshment with Limon&Nada

There are labels on all bridges over the railway

Salillas de Jalon

Here, the two railways are next to each other.

There are many services today in Spain, and the prices have gone down significantly on train tickets.
And now there is a flight show right in front of me

But I don't want to see fighter jets; I want to see freight trains
At Calatorao station, I can spot one
Euro 6000 from Medway is here
Medway is smaller here in Spain than in Portugal. However, there is an order of 16 locomotives of this type for services in the Iberian peninsula.

Morata de Jalón

There is a difference in topography now; the railway has a single track, and the roads are narrow and winding.
Castillo de Villanueva de Jalón (Ruinas)

The freight train had to stop and let a Media Distancia train pass, so now I have caught up.

The high-speed line uses a straight line.

Purroy

A faster highway is nearby, but I take this narrow road that follows the railway line.

Approaching Calatayud

The station in Calatayud combines both the classic and high-speed railways.

I still have a long way to go, so I'm taking the highway
Medinaceli station, located at 165km from Madrid
I have cached up this train as well

After a day with very few freight trains on the line, there is an increase in traffic later in the evening. Why is it so? The line is relatively quiet; otherwise, there are few passenger trains. Maybe there will be less heat in the evening and at night, and perhaps some railworks... Who knows...

Autovía A-2 from Barcelona to Madrid is just nearby. It is part of the European highway E-90 from Lisbon to the border between Iraq and Turkey

I have to say it is unfortunate to see so many trucks on the highway while the railway is almost unused.
The share of freight transportation in Spain is the following: Maritime about 80%, Road about 20%, Rail 0.5%

The only transportation by Rail is the one that can't be replaced by the road, or it would be more difficult
Heavy goods, car transport are using the Rail

Cars are also transported by Road, but it's probably a different purpose here

Today my dinner is out here

253 102 is back from Zaragoza

Later in the evening, I'm arriving in Guadalajara
Guadalajara is one of the terminus stops for Cercanias lines in Madrid
